‘World Water Day’ was designated as an annual commemorative day on March 22 by the 47th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 1992 to remind people of the preciousness of water, which is fundamental to sustaining life. South Korea has held commemorative ceremonies and related events since 1995, and Pohang City has been conducting ceremonies and purification activities since 2013.
The city held a water conservation and water-saving campaign and environmental cleanup activities around the Cheolgil Forest area, with the participation of about 150 people from 13 organizations, including the Mayor of Pohang, the head of K-water Pohang branch, the CEO of Powell, heads of Nonghyup and Daegu Bank city hall branches, Pohang tap water monitoring team, tap water evaluation committee, water service contractors, and water meter readers.
This year, to maximize promotional effects while preventing the spread of COVID-19, a large electronic display board was installed in front of the Cheolgil Forest fountain, and a promotional video about 7 minutes long was screened over two days from the 21st to the 22nd, leading efforts to inform citizens enjoying spring walks in the Cheolgil Forest about the value of water.
The main contents of the promotional video included ▲this year’s World Water Day theme, ‘Integrated Water Management, One Water’ (Ministry of Environment video) ▲the city’s water supply and management for preserving the clean water quality of Yeongil Bay ▲and the Pohang & Travel video to enhance the image of Pohang as a pleasant place to live.
