[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Homeplus's 'renewal strategy' is showing tangible results. The seven stores that reopened after renewal saw sales jump 46% compared to the same period last year during the first month after opening.
According to Homeplus on the 22nd, the seven stores?World Cup Branch, Ganseok Branch, Incheon Songdo Branch, Jakjeon Branch, Incheon Cheongna Branch, which reopened on the 17th of last month, and Gajwa Branch and Inha Branch, which opened on the 3rd?experienced about a 40% increase in purchase amount per customer compared to the same period last year over one month. Monthly sales at Ganseok Branch and World Cup Branch also rose about 80% compared to the same period last year, and sales per customer in the region increased by about 20% year-on-year.
Homeplus expanded single-serving packaged products in the renewed stores to target single-person households and the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z). As a result, the increase rates of customers in their 20s and 30s were 37% and 17%, respectively, showing a higher growth rate compared to other age groups.
The livestock and deli categories also succeeded by broadening customers' choices. The livestock and deli categories, which include 'Order-made Steak'?where meat products are trimmed according to customer preferences?and 'Fresh To Go,' a custom salad option, saw sales increase by 74% and 60%, respectively, compared to the same period last year after reopening.

Homeplus plans to actively continue investments by additionally renewing and reopening more than 10 'Homeplus Mega Food Markets' within the year. Oh Yonggeun, head of the Homeplus Store Strategy Team, said, "We focused on renewing the Incheon area, where many Homeplus customers exist and an increase in non-metropolitan population inflow is expected," adding, "We will continue ongoing renewals to create a foundation for Homeplus's transformation and growth."
