Gwangyang Dream Lions Club Plants Flower Trees in Dong and Seocheon Small Parks
Members and Their Wives Create a Flower Garden in the Spring Rain
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Jeonnam Gwangyang Dream Lions Club (President Hwang Bu-seong) gathered more than 20 members, including female members, city councilors, and township office staff, on the 19th at the Dream Observatory in Gwangyang-eup (Dong·Seocheon Hapgang Small Park) to plant spring flowers and trees together.
This event was held as the Dream Lions Club built the Dream Observatory clock tower in November last year at Dong·Seocheon Hapgang Small Park for citizens and has been managing the park as Dream Lions Small Park, promoting the planting of flowers and trees to create a more comfortable resting space.
The species planted this time were azaleas, hydrangeas, and moss phlox, with about 1,000 trees planted, and cosmos seeds were also sown together.
Along with planting flowers and trees, the Gwangyang Dream Lions Club also held a meaningful event to deliver sponsorship funds to the Gwangyang Girls' High School soccer team, which won first place in the girls' high school division at the 2021 Spring Federation Tournament held last year in Hwacheon.
President Hwang Bu-seong, who organized the event, said, "Despite the rain forecast, we proceeded with the event with joy," and expressed his aspiration, "Starting with planting flowers and trees, we will manage the park as a place where flowers bloom all year round and give hope to citizens."
Kim Jong-ho, mayor of Gwangyang-eup, participated in the planting, saying, "The township manages flower beds covering about 120,000 square meters, including the downtown area and Dong·Seocheon, and I am glad that the unnamed small park has gained a name and found its rightful owner."
The Dong·Seocheon Hapgang area in Gwangyang is where four rivers, including Dongcheon and Seocheon, the lifelines of the Gwangyang-eup region, converge into Gwangyang Bay. It has excellent ecological value and has recently become very popular as a walking course for citizens.
A representative of the Dream Club said, "In November last year, we created the Dream Observatory clock tower at Dong·Seocheon Hapgang for citizens and have been collecting trash through monthly environmental cleanup activities. We plan to install landscape lighting and add exercise facilities for future management."
