Mokpo Coast Guard Conducts First Water Rescue Qualification Exam of the Year
The Only Nationally Certified Qualification for Water Rescue Life Saving
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Mokpo Maritime Police Station announced on the 21st that it conducted the 2022 1st National Lifeguard Qualification Exam at the swimming pool of Nambu University in Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 20th.
The lifeguard qualification is administered by the Korea Coast Guard and is the only nationally certified qualification among lifesaving certifications that grants qualifications to individuals with professional capabilities to rescue lives on water.
The lifeguard qualification exam is open to anyone regardless of gender or age who has completed 64 hours (16 hours theory, 48 hours practical) of prior training at an educational institution designated by the Korea Coast Guard.
The exam subjects include ▲swimming techniques ▲water rescue ▲equipment rescue ▲comprehensive rescue ▲first aid and use of rescue equipment, totaling 7 subjects. To pass, candidates must score at least 60 points overall out of 100 and at least 40 points in each subject.
Upon obtaining the national lifeguard qualification certificate, individuals can work as water safety education instructors at disaster safety education institutions nationwide or as lifesaving and safety management personnel at beaches, water parks, and water leisure businesses.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “We will continue to conduct the exam safely and fairly to produce and nurture professional lifeguard personnel suitable for the national qualification exam.”

Meanwhile, last year, 73 candidates took the exam in the Mokpo area, and 51 obtained the lifeguard qualification certificate.
