Each year, an average of 2,566 youth aging out of care must leave protective facilities and become independent upon turning 18. Among them, 21% live in monthly rental houses with high living expenses, and another 21% reside in lodging facilities. Most of these youth, who must support themselves on low wages, live in very poor housing conditions, making external support crucial.
Hope Friends Korea Food for the Hungry plans to use KOTRA's donation to renovate the homes of three youth aging out of care into safe and hygienic spaces. In addition to the monetary donation, KOTRA will invite about 50 youth aging out of care to a construction site in June, providing free special lectures on job interviews and professional photo services together with its employees.
