Samsung Electronics President Kyung Kye-hyun Holds First Meeting with Labor Union Today... Will It Resolve Collective Bargaining Conflict?
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Kyung Kye-hyun, CEO of Samsung Electronics, will personally attend a meeting with the labor union delegation today. The union is expected to directly demand key issues such as wage negotiations and the guarantee of rest rights during this meeting, drawing attention to the outcome.
According to Samsung Electronics on the 18th, CEO Kyung will meet with union representatives at the Hwaseong plant at 1 PM.
From the company side, CEO Kyung and about three executives in charge of human resources will attend, while from the union side, each union chairman and secretary will participate in the meeting. The union plans to discuss two key demands, "improvement of the wage system" and "guarantee of rest rights," with the CEO during this meeting.
Regarding the wage system, the union plans to request changing the performance bonus payment standard from the current EVA (Economic Value Added) to operating profit, as well as the abolition of the comprehensive wage system and wage peak system, and a fixed increase in base salary. Concerning rest rights, they will demand an additional five paid holidays and one paid day each for the company founding day and the union founding day.
