Non-face-to-face Medical Platform Soldak Signs AI Technology Transfer Agreement with Yonsei University
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] SolDoc, a non-face-to-face medical platform, announced on the 17th that it has signed a technology transfer contract with Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation for the patent on the ‘Neural Network Learning Method for Sentence Data Class Classification.’
Neural network learning is a machine learning model developed by mimicking the human brain and is used to improve the performance of artificial intelligence (AI). SolDoc plans to utilize the acquired technology to collect and analyze users' healthcare data.
With the growth of the telemedicine market and the spread of COVID-19, demand for non-face-to-face medical services has significantly increased, leading to a rapid rise in patent applications for AI-based medical diagnostic technologies in Korea. According to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, patent applications in the field of ‘AI combined medical diagnostic methods’ increased from only 19 cases in 2016 to 270 cases in 2020, showing an average annual growth rate of 94% over five years.
SolDoc, which provides non-face-to-face medical consultations and prescription drug delivery services based on KakaoTalk chatbot and video call functions, has focused on technology development since its establishment. In December last year, it jointly filed a patent with Yonsei University for the ‘Collection and AI Analysis of Medical and Healthcare Data’ technology, and in May of the same year, it filed a patent for its independently developed ‘Server and Program Technology in the Field of Telemedicine.’
Additionally, SolDoc has enhanced its technological capabilities through winning several national research projects such as the Korea Health Industry Development Institute’s ‘Non-face-to-face Medical Specialized Company’ and the Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency’s ‘Startup Growth Technology Development Stepping Stone Project.’ Recognizing these achievements, it obtained the ‘Innovative Small and Medium Enterprise’ (Inno-Biz) certification from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
