"High-Sugar Content Orange Season Begins"... Emart Offers 300 Tons at Discount
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Emart announced on the 17th that it will sell 300 tons of oranges at a discount until the 23rd to mark the start of duty-free imports of U.S. oranges in March.
In this event, customers can purchase U.S. navel oranges with 12 Brix or higher at a 10-15% discounted price. Only oranges filled with sweetness were selected through a non-destructive sugar content sorter at the California production site. Unique oranges, PureSpec high-sugar oranges, Cara Cara oranges, Ken Ajussi oranges, and Halo mandarins are also available for sale.
With orange prices stronger than last year due to heatwaves in the main production area of California, Emart expanded direct sourcing volumes and adjusted import schedules to secure competitive prices and stable supply. The proportion of direct sourcing in total orange imports increased from about 50% last year to 80% this year, reducing distribution stages to lower prices. Additionally, by analyzing last year’s delayed imported fruit arrivals, orders were placed 1-2 weeks earlier than before to secure supply on time.
Mangoes are also being sold at last year’s price levels. As a representative product, Thai mangoes are offered at a 20% discount, and Mahachanok mangoes from Thailand receive a 1,000 won discount when Shinsegae points are used.
