Appointment of Welfare and Pension Policy Expert Kim Hyun-sook as Policy Special Advisor: "I Will Support Reflecting the President-elect's Philosophy and National Tasks"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Professor Kim Hyun-sook of Soongsil University was appointed as a policy advisor to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol on the 16th.
Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the president-elect, announced Kim's appointment, stating, "Advisor Kim is a policy expert who has served as the Chief of Employment and Welfare. Since President-elect Yoon's primary election period, he has provided in-depth policy support across various fields including economy, society, and welfare," adding, "President-elect Yoon frequently held comfortable discussions and exchanged opinions with him during the election period."
Originally, Advisor Kim was expected to play an active role in the transition committee. However, his appointment as an advisor seems to reflect the nature of coordination between President-elect Yoon and the Presidential Transition Committee. After holding a meeting with Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee, President-elect Yoon stated in a written briefing, "Once the transition committee is activated within this week, as the president-elect, I will preside over the entire transition committee meetings and hold frequent review meetings," and added, "I will steadily and intensively manage the national agenda roadmap on a daily basis. I will take responsibility, encourage, and review it."
Advisor Kim, who worked at the Korea Development Institute and the Korea Tax Research Institute, was involved in policy development from the presidential election pledges during the Park Geun-hye administration and participated in the transition committee. During the 19th National Assembly, he led reforms such as the public officials' pension reform as a proportional representative of the Saenuri Party. In the latter half of the Park Geun-hye administration, he served as the Chief of Employment and Welfare.
