Gyeonggi-do Selects 5 Locations Including Yangju-si for 'Cultural Autonomy Revitalization Project'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has selected five areas?Yangju, Uijeongbu, Osan, Yongin, and Icheon?as target regions for the '2022 Cultural Autonomy Revitalization Project,' in which local residents participate directly.
The province will support up to 200 million KRW per city/county to form public-private communities (councils) where cultural and artistic institutions and organizations based in these five areas collaborate with local residents to create a regional cultural ecosystem.
In July 2021, Gyeonggi Province became the first in the nation to enact the Gyeonggi-do Cultural Autonomy Basic Ordinance and conducted the Cultural Autonomy Revitalization Contest Project for the first time this year.
Yangju City will promote projects such as establishing institutional foundations and strengthening the capabilities of cultural actors, while Uijeongbu City will carry out projects like '333 Social Fiction,' where citizens prepare for and imagine the city's future.
Osan City plans projects that involve communication through various channels and opportunities for meetings with partner organizations, Yongin City proposes the theme 'A Cultural Ecosystem Cultivated Together as a Citizen Technology Living Laboratory,' and Icheon City has presented public art and artistic creation activities that culturally address current issues.
