Lee, a five-term senior lawmaker, responded on the afternoon of the 14th during an interview on MBC Radio's 'Pyo Chang-won's News High Kick' to the question, "Do you think President Moon Jae-in should settle the pardon issue?" by saying, "Of course, he should. Having a former president imprisoned for a long time is a significant political burden for President Moon, who is about to leave office."
He continued, "As a new government is launched, it is desirable for President Moon to make efforts to untangle these complicated issues," adding, "To prevent division among the people and to unite them, I believe President Moon cannot avoid pardoning former President Lee Myung-bak before leaving office."
Regarding the atmosphere within the party after the presidential election loss by a margin of 0.7 percentage points, he criticized, "'We lost but fought well' is an exaggerated claim," and pointed out, "The Democratic Party still faces a major hurdle that it could not overcome since last year's by-elections during this presidential election process." Lee also noted, "One was the major clash of regime judgment, and the other was the failure to resolve or overcome various controversies, suspicions, and scandals surrounding candidate Lee Jae-myung himself. These two are the biggest reasons for this election defeat."
He further explained, "At the root of the regime judgment is a very negative view of the Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party's ruling power," stating, "'Double standards,' hypocritical arrogance, and dogmatism are perceived by the public as a single entity, which is a very negative aspect. Unless these are overcome and eliminated, I think the Democratic Party will find it difficult to emerge from the shadows."
Lee mentioned that he was engulfed in criticism after advocating the 'Lee Myung-bak pardon theory.' He said, "I received an enormous number of text bomb messages, with a lot of insults and harsh words," and criticized, "I really think it is unwise."

Earlier that day, Lee appeared on BBS Radio's 'Park Kyung-soo's Morning Journal' and said, "President Moon Jae-in has already expressed regret over former President Lee Myung-bak, who is elderly, being imprisoned for a long time," adding, "It is a stage that naturally cannot be avoided."
