Special Exhibition for Nam June Paik's 90th Birthday Held at Jeonju's "Unexpected Art Museum"

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] A special exhibition of Nam June Paik (1932?2006), a world-renowned pioneer in the media art genre, will be held at Seonosong Art Village in Jeonju.

On the 14th, Jeonju City announced that to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of the late Nam June Paik, the founder of video art in Korea, a special exhibition titled "My Jubilee ist Unverhemmet" will be held from the 14th until next month’s 1st at the "Unexpected Art Museum" in Seonosong Art Village.

This exhibition was planned to provide Jeonju citizens and visitors with an opportunity to experience the works of Nam June Paik, a creative and fearless artist.

The exhibition title is taken from the LP album "My Jubilee ist Unverhemmet," which the late artist released in 1977.

The special exhibition features 16 works, including Nam June Paik’s representative pieces such as △ Video Chandelier no.4 (1999) △ Homeless Buddha (1991) △ I never read Wittgenstein (1999).

Additionally, various attractions such as documentary videos about Nam June Paik’s life and artistic activities will be provided.

Kim Seung-su, mayor of Jeonju, said, “The 'Unexpected Art Museum,' created in a space formerly used as a prostitution establishment, is the most symbolic place showing how Seonmi Village, once a red-light district, has transformed into Seonosong Art Village, where culture, art, and human rights coexist.” He emphasized, “This exhibition space, where local artists usually share diverse stories, will continue to strive to become a symbolic cultural space in Jeonju where world-renowned artists including Nam June Paik and famous works can be encountered.”
