Over 25,145 Drunk Driving Cases in Southern Gyeonggi Last Year... More Than Half Resulted in License Revocation
Drinking and Driving Accidents Decreased by 14% Compared to 2020
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 13th that it detected 25,145 cases of drunk driving during last year's enforcement operations.
Cases where the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher) totaled 15,364, while those measured at the license suspension level (0.03% or higher but less than 0.08%) amounted to 7,417.
There were 1,569 cases where the BAC was 0.2% or higher. Refusals to undergo testing were recorded at 2,364 cases. Drunk driving traffic accidents numbered 2,907 last year, a 14% decrease from 3,393 cases in 2020.
The police plan to strengthen drunk driving enforcement in line with the full resumption of socio-economic activities following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

A police official stated, "This year, we will maintain year-round drunk driving enforcement policies, punish passengers in drunk driving vehicles as accomplices, and continue a zero-tolerance principle for habitual drunk drivers, including vehicle confiscation."
