Lottery Fund Dream Ladder Scholarship New Student Recruitment... Starting March 14
Support for Low-Income Middle and High School Students and Those at Risk of Dropping Out
Plan to Select 2,400 Scholars This Year, Double Last Year's Number
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation announced on the 13th that they are recruiting new scholarship students for the 2022 academic year Lottery Fund Dream Ladder program, which provides scholarships linked through university to outstanding low-income middle and high school students.
This year, the Lottery Fund Dream Ladder program will select 4,300 new scholarship students, double the number from the previous year. The Dream Ladder scholarship project is a national scholarship program targeting students from 2nd year middle school to 3rd year high school who are recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, single-parent family support beneficiaries, or legally designated lower-income groups. The SOS scholarship temporarily supports emergency rescue targets regardless of low-income status.
Outstanding low-income middle and high school students recommended by their schools will receive the 'Dream Scholarship' (1,500 students), low-income middle and high school students with specialized talents selected through UCC will receive the 'Talent Scholarship' (500 students), and students facing the risk of dropping out due to disasters, accidents, or violence will receive the 'SOS Scholarship' (1st round 300 students, 2nd round 100 students). Last year’s competition rates were 2.81:1 for the Dream Scholarship, 2.1:1 for the Talent Scholarship, and 12:1 and 9:1 for the 1st and 2nd rounds of the SOS Scholarship, respectively.
Applications for the Dream and Talent Scholarships will be accepted from the 14th until April 7th, and for the SOS Scholarship (1st round) from the 14th until the 31st. After document review and in-depth evaluation, final selections will be made in July. For the SOS Scholarship, the 1st round selection will be completed by April, and the 2nd round recruitment announcement is planned for August.
Selected Dream and Talent scholarship students will receive monthly academic encouragement funds, mentoring, consulting, and other educational programs until they graduate from university. Middle school students will receive 250,000 KRW per month, and high school students will receive 350,000 KRW per month. High school seniors who enter university can participate as mentors for middle and high school scholarship students and receive 450,000 KRW per month as a scholarship. The SOS Scholarship provides the same amount but supports academic encouragement funds and psychological stabilization programs for 10 months after selection.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye said, "I hope the Dream Ladder scholarship program will serve as a stepping stone for many children’s growth and independence, so that students do not give up or abandon their dreams due to their family circumstances but can expand new challenges and possibilities."
