Daejeon City Assigns Military Medical Officers to Infectious Disease Dedicated Hospitals for Critical Patient Treatment and Management
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 11th that it will deploy 9 military medical officers (specialists) to 6 infectious disease dedicated hospitals in the area.
The deployment of military medical officers was decided due to the continued shortage of medical staff as the daily average number of new COVID-19 cases in the region exceeded 6,000.
At the infectious disease dedicated hospitals, the military medical officers will be responsible for the treatment and management of critically ill patients. The deployment period is from the 12th of this month to the 17th of next month.
So far, the city has increased the number of beds in preparation for the rise in COVID-19 cases from 322 as of the end of last year to 1,126 as of the 11th. Currently, it is understood that 374 of the total beds in the regional infectious disease dedicated hospitals are in use. Of the 69 intensive care beds, 43 are occupied, recording an operation rate of 62.3%.
Separately, as part of the COVID-19 response through support for public health center personnel, the government dispatched 119 central government officials to Daejeon for one month on the 28th of last month. The dispatched officials are distributed across public health centers in 5 autonomous districts, performing tasks such as epidemiological investigations, home treatment, and operating screening clinics.
However, the city recently judged that the COVID-19 outbreak has entered its peak phase and plans to devote full efforts to patient management over the next 1 to 2 weeks. This is based on the prediction that the number of new confirmed cases will reach its absolute peak during this period.
