At 9:10 a.m. that day, President Moon spoke with President-elect Yoon, saying, "Thank you for your hard work during the difficult election," and added, "It is important to wash away the conflicts and divisions from the election process and achieve unity so that the people become one."
President-elect Yoon replied, "Please teach me a lot," and said, "I hope we can meet soon."
In response, President Moon said, "Even if political positions and policies differ, the government has many continuous aspects and there are parts related to the transition, so let's meet," and added, "I will support so that the new government has no gaps." He also urged, "You will be busy with the transition committee and inauguration preparations, so please take rest and take good care of your health."
President Moon also addressed the public, saying, "I offer congratulations to those who were elected and their supporters, and consolation to those who were not elected and their supporters," and expressed gratitude, "Thank you to the people who participated actively in voting despite COVID-19 and cooperated to ensure the election was conducted safely."
He added, "The election process was intense and the difference in results was narrow, but now it is important to overcome conflicts and achieve national unity," and said, "Our government will devote itself to state affairs until the end without any gaps and support the smooth launch of the next government."
President Moon is also scheduled to speak with candidate Lee Jae-myung. A Blue House official stated, "We are arranging the schedule for the call."
