52 Chosun University ROTC Cadets Take Their First Step as Army Officers
60th Commissioning Ceremony Held
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Fifty-two Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets from Chosun University have taken their first step as Army officers.
According to Chosun University on the 10th, the commissioning ceremony for the 60th class held on the 8th was organized as an occasion for a total of 52 cadets, including nine female officers, to proudly begin their careers as officers of the Republic of Korea Army.
While enrolled in university, they underwent a two-year prescribed military education, combat commander training, field commander training, and a comprehensive commissioning evaluation before being commissioned as second lieutenants.
After receiving refresher training according to their assigned branches, they will be deployed to frontline units to fulfill their national defense duties as officers.
The commissioning ceremony was held with the attendance of university and ROTC officials, including President Min Young-don, Park Chan-mo, Senior Vice President of the Chosun University ROTC Alumni Association, Lee Byung-pil, Commander of the ROTC unit, and Kim Beop-heon, Head of the Department of Military Science.
On this day, Second Lieutenant Yoo Jeong-yoon and two others received the University President’s Commendation, while Second Lieutenant Lee Ha-yeon and 12 others were awarded the University President’s Exemplary Award.
Second Lieutenants Lim Hyun-jun and Jang Tae-young received the Chosun University ROTC Alumni Association President’s Award, and Second Lieutenant Oh Jun-gyu was honored with the Army Cadet Military Academy Commandant’s Award.
Additionally, Second Lieutenants Noh Jeong-won and Go Gyu-jin received the 31st Infantry Division Commander’s Award, Second Lieutenant Heo Hye-cheol received the Education Brigade Commander’s Award, and five others including Second Lieutenant Kim Jae-uk received the ROTC Unit Commander’s Award.
Notably, Second Lieutenant Bae Geon-hee from the Department of Military Science was honored with both the Army Chief of Staff Award and the ROTC Central Association President’s Award simultaneously.
Second Lieutenant Bae was highly evaluated for his strong military spirit and excellent academic performance, being selected as the representative cadet of the ROTC unit and receiving the Army Chief of Staff Award.
Following this, Second Lieutenant Yoo Jeong-yoon, as the representative of the 52 cadets, received the commissioning order and rank insignia. The cadets pinned their rank insignia on each other, marking the beginning of their careers as officers.
Meanwhile, the 60th class cadets, from their enrollment in 2020 until December last year, also donated over 5 million won in university development funds collected for their juniors. The Chosun University ROTC unit has been contributing development funds annually for juniors since 2014.
Second Lieutenant Bae Geon-hee said, “I am pleased to receive this honorable award, and it is thanks to being able to share it with my peers. Taking my first step as an Army second lieutenant has become an opportunity to strengthen my resolve, and I will do my best in fulfilling my future national defense duties.”
President Min Young-don said, “I sincerely congratulate you on your graduation and commissioning as young officers who have completed rigorous military training and academic studies, embodying both literary and martial virtues. I hope you will never forget the unique pride and mission learned at Chosun University and advance fearlessly.”
He added, “I wish honor and fulfillment to always accompany you on your path, and Chosun University will also send strong support for your future.”

Meanwhile, the Chosun University ROTC unit, established in 1961 as a traditional ROTC program, systematically conducts two years of military education to cultivate excellent officers equipped with both university academic knowledge and military expertise.
