Mother Who Starved 3-Year-Old Daughter to Death and Cohabiting Partner Also Detained
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Following the arrest of a woman in her 20s for starving and neglecting her 3-year-old daughter to death, her cohabiting partner who participated in the crime was also eventually detained.
The Ulsan District Court issued an arrest warrant on the 8th for Mr. A, in his 20s, on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.
According to the court, Mr. A's charges were recognized and there was a concern of flight risk. The child's biological mother, Ms. B, was previously arrested on the 5th.
Mr. A and others are accused of neglecting and abandoning their 31-month-old daughter and 17-month-old son. Ms. B is the biological mother of both children, and Mr. A is known to be the biological father of the boy.
On the 3rd, they each went out separately, leaving only the children in their one-room apartment in Nam-gu, Ulsan. When the biological mother Ms. B returned home at 7:13 PM that day, she found her daughter not breathing and called 119. The child was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
At the time, the deceased daughter's weight was only about 7 kg, roughly half that of children her age, and the hospital suspected abuse due to severe underweight.
