Hyundai Motor's 'Ioniq 5' Wins 'UK Car of the Year' Award
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been selected as the most competitive car in the UK.
On the 8th (local time), Hyundai announced that the Ioniq 5 was finally chosen as the '2022 UK Car of the Year,' beating out some of the world's leading automobiles.
The 'UK Car of the Year' is selected through evaluation and voting by a panel of 29 automotive journalists active in the UK, including those from Top Gear.
The award is given from among 10 car models chosen as the best in each category, with the Ioniq 5 ultimately selected. The finalists for the best cars in each category were △Fiat 500-e △Skoda Fabia △Kia Ceed △Ioniq 5 △Genesis G70 Shooting Brake △Toyota Yaris Cross △Skoda Enyaq △BMW iX △Porsche Taycan △Hyundai i20N.
John Challin, editor of UK Car of the Year, said, "The Ioniq 5 feels like the future of automobiles," adding, "In particular, the Ioniq 5 has excellent competitiveness in all aspects such as design, performance, and practicality. It is not only the best choice for those looking for an electric vehicle but also worthy of being the UK Car of the Year."
Ashley Andrew, head of Hyundai UK, said, “We are very honored that the Ioniq 5 has won the UK Car of the Year,” and added, “This shows that the Ioniq 5 has captivated UK consumers with its innovative design, excellent interior space, and efficient charging system, demonstrating high product value.”
The Ioniq 5 has previously received multiple accolades across Europe.
In November last year, it was selected as the ‘2022 Germany Car of the Year.’ It also ranked first in the electric vehicle category of Auto Bild’s 'Best Imported Cars' and topped Auto Zeitung’s comprehensive electric vehicle comparison. Earlier this month, it received high praise in Auto Bild’s electric vehicle comparison, surpassing Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated electric vehicle EQB, earning strong recognition in Germany, the home of automobiles.
Additionally, last year, it swept three categories?‘2021 Car of the Year,’ ‘Mid-size Work Vehicle,’ and ‘Premium Electric Vehicle’?at the UK automotive media outlet Auto Express’s New Car Awards. It has also won various awards such as the UK Top Gear Electric Award, Car Design Review, and IDEA Design Award, establishing itself as one of the best electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Tucson also reaffirmed Hyundai’s competitiveness by being named ‘Canada Utility Vehicle of the Year’ by the Canadian Automotive Journalists Association last month.
