Democratic Party Gwangju Election Committee Appeals for 'Overwhelming Support' in Final Intensive Campaign Rally
All Hands on Deck Including the Previous Committee and Local Lawmakers in Front of Gwangju Park: "Show the Great Power of Gwangju Citizens"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 8th, one day before the 20th presidential election, the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Gi-eon-chi Election Countermeasures Committee concluded its official campaign and appealed for overwhelming support from citizens.
The Democratic Party Gwangju Election Committee held an official campaign closing rally in front of Gwangju Park in Nam-gu in the afternoon and asked for support for candidate Lee Jae-myung.
The event began with a screening of the video "Message from Candidate Lee Jae-myung to the Honam People," which was released the previous day, hosted by Assemblyman Jo Oh-seop.
The video contained a message from candidate Lee Jae-myung, who was focusing on campaigning in the metropolitan area on the last day of the presidential election, to Honam.
This was followed by relay campaign speeches.
Gwangju Co-Chairperson Chae Eun-ji said, "Yoon Seok-yeol, who became a presidential candidate by cramming without common sense or knowledge, has no ability to overcome crises," adding, "He betrayed the people with a baseless and vile collusion, covered up the Busan Savings Bank incident, allowing vested interests to run rampant. If prosecutorial reform is nullified, democracy will regress. Please show the great power of Gwangju citizens."
Assemblyman Lee Byung-hoon said, "Support for candidate Lee Jae-myung is expected to surpass that of Yoon Seok-yeol," and urged, "Let us unite until the end and elect Lee Jae-myung as president."
Assemblyman Lee Hyung-seok said, "Gwangju citizens showed an overwhelming early voting rate of 48.3%. I believe you will show overwhelming support in the main vote as well."
Assemblyman Min Hyung-bae said, "If we do our best until the end, we can make him a 'Gi-eon-chi' president, just like our election committee's name," and declared, "The 20th president of the Republic of Korea is Lee Jae-myung."
Assemblyman Lee Yong-bin said, "This election is to suppress the prosecutorial coup," and urged, "Just as we took up arms during May 18 to stop the military coup, now let's vote to stop the prosecutorial coup."
Assemblyman Yoon Young-duk, instead of campaigning, read the lyrics of singer Lee Eun-mi's song "Seumul Yeol" (Twenty-eight), written by candidate Lee Jae-myung, encouraging everyone who participated in the campaign.
Song Gap-seok, Gwangju City Party Chairman, appealed to Gwangju citizens through a statement, saying, "The moment of fate has come whether the Republic of Korea will move forward or regress to the past," and urged, "Show the great power of Gwangju citizens."
He continued, "We must create a wind toward the metropolitan area. Please convey Lee Jae-myung's competence and politics of unity to relatives and acquaintances who have not yet voted," adding, "Tomorrow will be the day of victory for Gwangju citizens. Please open the era of a competent economic president strong in crisis, Gwangju citizens."
