Japanese Government to Accept 8 Ukrainian Refugees: "Will Actively and Swiftly Accommodate"

According to Japan's Kyodo News on the 8th, Yoshihisa Furukawa, Japan's Minister of Justice, stated at the House of Councillors' Judicial Committee that the entry of eight Ukrainian refugees was approved. Earlier, on the 2nd, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Japan would begin accepting Ukrainian refugees.
The eight Ukrainian refugees, who have relatives or acquaintances in Japan, were granted a short-term stay status for 90 days and entered Japan from countries such as Poland. The Japanese government will consider individual circumstances when these refugees apply for asylum to determine whether to grant refugee status. Minister Furukawa emphasized that the government will "actively and promptly respond in cooperation with relevant ministries to accept Ukrainian evacuees."
