LG Electronics Initiates Voluntary Recall of Built-in Dual Hot and Cold Water Purifier
For the WU900AS Model
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] LG Electronics announced on the 8th that it will conduct a voluntary replacement (recall) for one built-in dual water purifier model with a hot water function (WU900AS).
The affected products are those produced, sold, and installed from October 1 of last year to the 28th of last month. LG Electronics explained that among the 10,300 units of the product, it has confirmed that currently 33 units have issues where hot water does not come out or cloudy hot water comes out due to corrosion of the hot water supply valve.
Accordingly, customers using the affected products were first advised to stop using them via text messages and phone calls. They also announced that they will replace the water purifier main unit or parts under the sink as soon as possible.
For rental customers, rental fees for the used period will be refunded, and contract termination without penalty is possible if the customer wishes. For purchase customers, they were informed that an amount equivalent to the rental fee for the used period will be paid, and refunds are possible if desired. Additionally, until the replacement is completed, the cost of purchasing bottled water will be provided.
The company analyzed the cloudy water through its own Water Science Research Institute, a nationally certified water quality inspection agency, and a third-party inspection agency, confirming that the content of two components, chromium and iron, and turbidity exceeded the drinking water quality standards.
However, they added that according to a risk analysis of the cloudy water conducted by the Risk Assessment Research Institute of Seokyeong University, the probability of health effects from consumption is very low.
