Ukraine: Russian General Officer Killed in Battle Near Kharkiv
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Ukraine's Ministry of Defense intelligence agency announced that a high-ranking Russian military leader died in combat, according to reports by The Guardian and others on the 7th (local time).
According to the report, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced that Vitali Gerasimov, the chief deputy commander of Russia's 41st Army with the rank of major general, died during a battle near Kharkiv (Kharkov), Ukraine. The Ministry stated that he is the second Russian general to die in Ukraine and added that other senior officers also lost their lives alongside him.
Ukraine's intelligence authorities also confirmed the death of Deputy Commander Gerasimov, stating that he participated in the Second Chechen War and Russia's military operations in Syria, and received a medal as a result of the forced annexation of the Crimean Peninsula (Krym Peninsula).
Earlier, the British daily The Independent reported, citing military sources, that Andrey Sukhovetsky, major general and commander of Russia's 7th Airborne Division, was killed by a Ukrainian sniper during an operation.

However, foreign media reported that these announcements by Ukraine have not been independently verified, and Russian authorities have not confirmed them either.
