[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Hydrogen Talent Development' on the 8th with the City Office of Education, Inha University, and Incheon National University to establish a foundation for leading the hydrogen economy.
Accordingly, these institutions agreed to mutually cooperate in fostering creative hydrogen talents through the exchange of hydrogen policies and technical information, developing teaching materials and establishing talent development programs across the hydrogen ecosystem, and building a system linking hydrogen company experience activities with workforce recruitment.
Based on the agreement, Incheon City plans to attract investments from large corporations such as Hyundai Mobis, SK E&S, and GS Energy in connection with the urban hydrogen production cluster project, which is currently undergoing a preliminary feasibility study, and establish Cheongna International City as the hydrogen economy hub of South Korea.
Additionally, the City Office of Education will pilot operate a 'Project-based Career Experience Academy' in the second half of the year targeting 60 first- and second-year students from general high schools, centered on Incheon High School and Gyesan High School.
To this end, the city and the education office began developing specialized teaching materials last December in collaboration with local universities, covering the characteristics of hydrogen, hydrogen society, introduction to the hydrogen industry value chain, exploratory design, and data collection and analysis for hydrogen talent development.
The city expects this to be a valuable opportunity for students to understand hydrogen energy and design their careers through the exploratory process of hydrogen energy, a field still unfamiliar to them.
