Starting next year, the high school credit system will be gradually applied from the first year of all general high schools. The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is leading the nation by designating all general high schools in the province as research and leading schools to rapidly transition to the high school credit system operation.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education will support a total of 4.4 billion KRW, up to 60 million KRW per school depending on school size, through operating 7 research schools and 117 leading schools to foster a model for the generalization of the high school credit system and to spread excellent cases to the field.
The research schools will operate for three years after designation, and the leading schools will continue to operate until the full application of the credit system in 2025.
The high school credit system, which will be fully introduced to all general high schools in 2025, is a system that recognizes graduation when students select and complete various subjects according to their career aptitude and accumulate credits reaching the completion criteria.
The Gyeongbuk-type high school credit system research and leading schools operate specialized curricula and carry out core tasks to create a credit system model.
The core tasks include forming a curriculum completion guidance team, operating a career-focused semester system in the first semester of the first year, guiding elective subjects and course registration, managing individual course timetables, systematic academic planning guidance, fostering a collaborative school culture, and restructuring learning spaces for the credit system.
