US House of Representatives to Pass 'Russia Energy Import Ban Bill' as Early as the 8th
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The U.S. House of Representatives is reported to be set to pass a related bill as early as the 8th (local time) that bans the import of Russian energy and halts general trade with Russia.
According to reports, the bill includes provisions granting President Joe Biden the authority to raise tariffs on products from Russia and Belarus, and requires the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to devise measures to suspend Russia's participation in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (Democrat) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (Democrat) stated in a joint statement that day "We have agreed to pass a bill banning the import of Russian energy."

The U.S. Department of Commerce also issued a statement confirming that it is "in discussions with Congress on measures to advance an effective and resolute global response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's unjustified invasion of Ukraine."
