Local Governments and Social Organizations Continue 'Support for Wildfire Damage Recovery'
Goyang City and Uljin County Fundraising and Volunteer Work
Yanggu County Supports Emergency Restoration and Residual Fire Cleanup
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Fundraising and volunteer activities by local governments and social organizations are ongoing to help the wildfire-affected areas along the east coast of Gyeongbuk Uljin and Gangwon.
On the 7th, Goyang City announced, "We extend our deepest condolences to our sister city Gyeongbuk Uljin-gun, which suffered damage from the wildfire, and plan to carry out a fundraising campaign involving Goyang city officials and citizens for rapid recovery."
First, donations prepared by the mayor and senior officials will be delivered to Uljin-gun. Then, a 'wildfire damage donation campaign' will be conducted targeting city officials, related organizations, and citizens, with the funds to be delivered to the wildfire-affected areas in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon regions.
Also, once the damage assessment by the government and local governments is completed, the city plans to cooperate with the Volunteer Center to recruit volunteers and provide supplies and volunteer support.
Lee Jae-jun, mayor of Goyang City, said, "We will prepare various support measures at the city level so that the affected areas in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon, including Uljin-gun, which are suffering from the wildfire, can be quickly restored and return to normal life."
Public officials and social organizations in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon, are also stepping up to help residents of Gangneung, Donghae, Samcheok, and Yeongwol.
Yanggu-gun plans to send a total of 80 public officials, 40 per day, over two days starting today to visit wildfire victims, provide consolation, and support emergency recovery and extinguishing remaining fires.
Among social organizations in Yanggu, the Baruge Salgi Movement Yanggu-gun Council will visit Gangneung, the Saemaeul Movement Yanggu-gun Branch will visit Donghae, the Yanggu-gun Village Chiefs Association will visit Samcheok, and the Yanggu-gun Prosperity Association will visit Yeongwol to deliver consolation goods respectively.

Jo In-mook, head of Yanggu-gun, said, "It is very unfortunate and heartbreaking that many victims have occurred due to this wildfire," adding, "It is natural that Yanggu-gun public officials and residents are the first to step forward to help the victims once again."
