Yoon Suk-yeol: "30% of Our Country's Workers Must Work in Large Corporations for Overall Labor Conditions to Improve"
"If You Want to Support Workers, You Must Create Conditions for a Smooth-Running Workplace"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, argued on the 7th that large corporations need to grow in order to improve workers' labor conditions. Yoon also expressed the view that "the most important thing for workers is to create conditions that make workplaces run smoothly."
During a campaign event in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, Yoon said, "Aren't there many factories in the Siheung industrial complex?" He mentioned, "There are many small and medium-sized enterprises, and according to the 9988 statistic, 99% of companies are SMEs, but only 88% of workers are employed there. Only exactly 12% of workers in our country work for large corporations."
He continued, "Large corporations have better working conditions," adding, "This government keeps getting caught up in ideology and making unreasonable demands, so people running large corporations pack up and leave, and they don't even set up shop here anymore." He said, "For the overall labor conditions to improve, more than 30% of workers in our country need to be employed by large corporations."
Yoon raised his voice, saying, "Just saying you support workers with words does not mean you truly care for them." He stated, "Only about 4% of workers are represented by militant labor unions. However, this government puts militant unions at the forefront to seize power, extend its rule, and when things go wrong, they resort to mass protests and even violence."
