Support for Aviation Fuel for Military Evolution Helicopters
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The military plans to supply aviation fuel to government helicopters deployed for wildfire suppression in the East Coast region.
On the 7th, the Ministry of National Defense announced that it will provide the necessary aviation fuel for 10 government helicopters operating in wildfire suppression efforts, utilizing aviation fuel stockpiled at nearby units.
Since the 4th, the military has deployed approximately 4,120 Army personnel, 75 helicopters including CH-47, UH-60, HH-32, and Surion, about 930 Navy personnel, around 170 Air Force personnel, and approximately 1,990 Marine Corps personnel. Units near the wildfire area such as the 8th Corps, 50th Division, 102nd Armored Brigade, Navy 1st Fleet, and Marine Corps 1st Division rapid response units have been dispatched.
The Army is assisting firefighting authorities in suppression efforts while simultaneously providing military medical services to residents in the affected areas. The Navy is focusing on establishing firebreaks and preventing the fire from spreading to residential areas and downtown in Donghae City, Gangwon Province, where the 1st Fleet is stationed. The Air Force is supplying fuel to firefighting helicopters from both civilian and government sectors engaged in aerial wildfire suppression. Marines from the 1st Division rapid deployment unit are camping within the local community at Uljin Middle and High Schools, establishing firebreak belts around Hujeong-ri and Sillim-ri areas. They are also conducting mop-up operations to eliminate residual fires in residential areas around Uljin.
