Yoon Seok-yeol Election Camp Appoints Special Advisor Without 5·18 Merit Recipients' Consent... "Plan to File Complaint for Personal Information Act Violation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Some members of the May 18 Detained and Injured Victims Association were unknowingly appointed as special advisors (special aides) to Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party. They plan to file complaints against candidate Yoon and others with the police.
On the 4th, 66 members of the May 18 Detained and Injured Victims Association stated in a press release, "Candidate Yoon illegally collected personal information and indiscriminately issued special advisor appointment letters," adding, "He has damaged the dignity of the May 18 merit recipients who are supposed to maintain political neutrality."
According to them, the People Power Party's election campaign headquarters sent a special advisor appointment letter via text message on the 2nd to members of the May 18 Detained and Injured Victims Association, stating, "You are appointed as a special advisor for the Fair Country division of the Organization Headquarters of the People Power Party Election Headquarters for the 20th Presidential Election." The appointment letter also bore candidate Yoon's official seal.
The May 18 Detained and Injured Victims Association believes that the People Power Party's election campaign unlawfully used their personal information. The appointment letters were reportedly sent only to some members of the detained and injured victims among the three May 18 organizations. The association plans to file a complaint with the police against candidate Yoon and others responsible for reporting, on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
