Democratic Party: "US Time Magazine's Exclusive Interview with Lee Jae-myung... Proof They See Him as a Leading Candidate"
"TIME Magazine, which has predicted and interviewed winners before every presidential election, conducts an exclusive interview with this candidate"
"Evidence that they see him as a leading next winner"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea emphasized on the 4th that the fact that the influential American current affairs weekly magazine TIME conducted an exclusive interview with presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung is "evidence that they see him as the next likely winner."
On the same day, the Democratic Party issued a press release stating, "TIME published an exclusive interview article focusing on candidate Lee on the 4th, the day early voting for the 20th presidential election began."
The Democratic Party said, "TIME has previously published exclusive interviews with candidates who were then presidential hopefuls?Roh Moo-hyun, Lee Myung-bak, Park Geun-hye, and Moon Jae-in?from the 16th to the 19th presidential elections, and was recognized for successfully predicting the Korean presidential winners. Accordingly, given that TIME exclusively covered candidate Lee, there is speculation that Washington and other U.S. political circles view him as the most likely next president of Korea."
In the article posted on TIME's online edition that day, candidate Lee was introduced as having "served as mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi Province, gaining nationwide fame for his resolute response to the COVID-19 pandemic." It also explained that he pursues progressive policies such as universal basic income, and detailed his positions on the Ukraine crisis, North Korea policy, and pragmatic diplomatic initiatives.
