Gyeonggi-do to Pay Compensation for Agricultural Waste Collection... Until April 30
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will intensively collect agricultural waste until April 30. Compensation will also be provided for the collected waste.
On the 4th, Gyeonggi Province announced that in accordance with the implementation of the fine dust seasonal management system, it plans to collect waste vinyl and pesticide containers from farms by village to prevent fine dust emissions caused by illegal burning.
The province will store the collected waste vinyl, etc., at joint collection centers and then transport them to the Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Environment. In particular, waste vinyl will be crushed, washed, and compressed for recycling as raw materials, while waste pesticide containers will be either recycled or incinerated.
Additionally, the province decided to provide collection compensation to facilitate the smooth disposal of agricultural waste.
The collection compensation will be given to farmers who bring agricultural waste to the joint collection centers installed in their villages, based on the type and amount of waste. For waste vinyl, compensation ranges from 70 to 150 KRW per kilogram depending on the contamination level, while for waste pesticide containers, 80 KRW per bag-type container and 100 KRW per bottle-type container will be paid.
A provincial official stated, "The collection of agricultural waste is a project to reduce rural fine dust, recycle resources, reduce soil pollution, and create a clean rural environment," adding, "Active participation and cooperation from residents are necessary to ensure intensive collection."
