Suspect in 50s Transferred to Prosecution for Knife Murder in Mapo Residential Area
Around 7:32 AM, transported in a prison van to Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A man in his 50s has been handed over to the prosecution on suspicion of killing a man in his 40s in a residential area of Mapo-gu.
The Seoul Mapo Police Station sent Mr. Jang (55), a man in his 50s who was arrested on suspicion of murder, to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office on the 3rd.
At 7:33 a.m. that day, Mr. Jang was transported to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office while in a transfer vehicle.
Mr. Jang is suspected of killing Mr. A, a man in his 40s, in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, at 6:35 p.m. on the 22nd of last month. The police responded within three minutes after receiving a report from Mr. A, but he was already deceased.
Subsequently, the police began tracking based on nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence, and at around 11:56 p.m., Mr. Jang was urgently arrested near his residence in Incheon. At the time, Mr. Jang was intoxicated and reportedly admitted to the crime.
The victim, Mr. A, was an executive of a small construction company, and it is known that he had a debt-related conflict with Mr. Jang.
It is also reported that on the day before the crime, the 21st of last month, Mr. Jang visited Mr. A’s office and argued over debt issues.
