A City Without School Violence... Busan City Launches Pilot Project to Achieve 'School Violence Zero'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan City and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will officially launch the elementary school semester and the ‘Busan-type School Violence Zero Initiative Pilot Project’ on the 2nd.
The pilot project is the nation’s first program jointly prepared by the city and the education office to establish a ‘safe and happy school culture free from violence.’
The city aims to develop an excellent Busan-type model through operating pilot programs that respond to school violence in the prevention, occurrence, and post-incident stages.
Last year, issues such as the Me Too movement in sports and arts sectors brought school violence to the forefront as a social problem. Recognizing the need to create a safe and happy school culture for the healthy growth of local youth, the city and the education office agreed to promote this project.
Starting with project discussions, the city and education office completed preparations for the full-scale pilot project through processes including ▲ signing a business agreement between the city and education office and forming an expert advisory group ▲ holding a citizen forum ▲ developing pilot project manuals and performance indicators ▲ and calling for and selecting pilot schools.
The ‘pilot schools’ where the project will be operated are Oryukdo and Juyang Elementary Schools. In February, the two schools completed preliminary preparations such as training teachers on the operation manual and program implementation.
The city plans to run the pilot programs until the end of the year and develop the final excellent model.
The programs, manuals, and performance indicators applied in the pilot project were developed mainly by the ‘Busan School Violence Prevention and Recovery Mediation Center’ in collaboration with an expert advisory group from various fields related to school violence.
Busan City and the education office plan to evaluate the pilot project’s outcomes at the end of this year, review and supplement the project, and then disseminate the excellent model to all schools starting next year.
