China Begins Land Evacuation of Its Nationals Staying in Ukraine
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Chinese government has begun the land evacuation of its nationals staying in Ukraine.
According to the online edition of the People's Daily on the 1st, the local Chinese embassy announced that on the previous day, the first group of Chinese international students left Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, by bus and headed to neighboring countries.
China originally planned to evacuate its nationals staying locally by chartered flights, but due to the hostilities between Ukraine and Russia making safety uncertain, it considered evacuation via land routes.
Neighboring countries of Ukraine such as Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland are reportedly providing customs-related conveniences to entrants coming from Ukraine, according to the People's Daily.
Before Russia's invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of last month, approximately 6,000 Chinese nationals, including traders, international students, and overseas Chinese, were reported to be staying throughout Ukraine, including Kyiv.
