Sim Sang-jung: "Ukraine's war because of a novice president? That person wears a military uniform and defends the capital"
"Strongly Condemn President Putin for Invading Ukraine"
"Must End Winner-Takes-All Two-Party Politics That Terrorize People with Doom Prophecies"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Sim Sang-jung, the Justice Party presidential candidate, targeted Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, on the 28th, saying, "Some presidential candidates say that war broke out because they are 'beginner presidents,'" and pointed out, "President Zelensky of Ukraine is wearing military uniform and holding a gun, defending the capital of Ukraine, moving not only Ukrainian citizens but also citizens around the world."
Sim said at a campaign rally at Jungang Market in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, in the afternoon, "When the country is really in danger and the people are at risk, isn't the president the one who stands at the very front, risking life and limb to protect the country and the people?"
He continued, "I hope that those running for president this time reflect on who a president is and what they should prepare for by looking at the Ukraine situation," adding, "And war is the responsibility of the aggressor. Aggressive war is the enemy of humanity. I strongly condemn President Putin of Russia, who launched the invasion of Ukraine."
He also emphasized, "I once again urge the South Korean government here to provide all possible support and international solidarity to assist Ukraine."
Sim also claimed that both Lee and Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party presidential candidate, lack legitimacy. He said, "At this great turning point, our Republic of Korea has lost the spirit of the times, vision, and policies regarding which direction to take. Because candidates lacking legitimacy are competing, they recklessly issue populist pledges just to get votes, making the differences between candidates unclear," and warned, "If the election ends like this, we will see even more desperate mudslinging politics for the next five years."
He added, "One side says the country will collapse if the regime changes, and the other side says the country will collapse if the regime continues, creating fear and lining up citizens. But over the past 35 years, we have experienced several regime changes within institutionalized democracy, and did the country collapse? In extreme situations, the people intervened and resolved everything. Our democracy is that strong," appealing to end the winner-takes-all two-party system.
