Incheon Airport Corporation "New Training Program, World's First ICAO International Standard Certification for Airports"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 28th that its self-developed "Airport Development and Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT)" training program has received international standard curriculum certification from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), marking the first time for any airport worldwide.
Airport development and construction are long-term projects requiring substantial resources and time, making the establishment of an efficient master plan at the initial stage critically important. Operational readiness is one of the essential procedures that must be conducted before full-scale airport operations commence.
The corporation applied ICAO international standards to condense essential content for efficient airport construction and opening into four modules, covering △ airport master plan establishment △ airport facility concept design △ airport operational readiness planning.
Additionally, the curriculum includes various excellent on-site cases based on the successful construction and operation experiences of Incheon Airport’s Terminal 1, Concourse, and Terminal 2. It integrates core airport operation know-how accumulated over the past 20 years to complete a higher-level training program.
This training program will be used not only to enhance the capabilities of internal staff but also from April onwards in training programs inviting aviation officials from developing countries in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America, as well as in the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) global training programs secured by the corporation.
Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, stated, “By utilizing this training program to strengthen the capabilities of our internal staff, we plan to continue safe and efficient airport operations while transferring our know-how to airports worldwide, contributing to the development of the global aviation industry.”
The corporation announced in January ten key focus tasks centered on three pillars: normalization of airport operations, enhancement of airport competitiveness, and sustainable future growth. The development of this training program is expected to significantly contribute to the export of the K-Airport platform through the expansion of overseas economic territories based on a Korean model, one of the key focus tasks.
Meanwhile, since 2007, the Incheon Airport Corporation Talent Development Institute has operated 491 training programs for 9,479 aviation officials from 151 countries worldwide.
