"US May Impose Direct Sanctions on Putin as Early as the 25th"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Josel Gina] The United States is expected to impose sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as the 25th (local time) in connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, CNN reported citing two sources.
According to the report, these sanctions are expected to be a higher level of sanctions following those imposed by the United States on the Russian economy and close associates of President Putin after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The sources said Russian officials will also be included in the sanctions target list.
CNN reported that this follows the European Union (EU) discussing sanctions against President Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
President Joe Biden, in a national address the day before, left open the possibility that sanctions against President Putin are still "on the table." However, he did not answer repeated questions about why sanctions were not imposed on President Putin that day.
