Oral COVID-19 Treatment 'Paxlovid', Additional 40,000 Doses to be Imported on 27th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] On the 27th, an additional 41,000 doses of Pfizer's oral COVID-19 treatment 'Paxlovid' will be introduced into the country.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced this during a back briefing on the afternoon of the 25th. The total amount of Paxlovid imported under the purchase contract with Pfizer was originally 762,000 doses. Of these, about 32,000 doses have been delivered to the country so far.
According to the KDCA, from the start of Paxlovid administration on the 14th until 6:30 p.m. on the 24th, Paxlovid was administered to 17,660 people.
Considering that 8,905 doses were used by the 17th, the usage in the past week amounts to 8,755 doses. The remaining Paxlovid stock is 14,210 doses.
As of now, those receiving Paxlovid are classified as 14,365 home treatment patients, 654 patients admitted to residential treatment centers, and 2,641 patients hospitalized in infectious disease specialized hospitals.
Since the 21st, 'patients in their 40s with underlying conditions' have also been eligible to receive Paxlovid prescriptions, making the current overall prescription targets those aged 60 and above, immunocompromised individuals, and patients in their 40s and 50s with underlying conditions.

The KDCA also announced that from this day forward, Paxlovid prescriptions are available at respiratory clinics and designated respiratory medical institutions.
