[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] On the 25th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will invest 12.9 billion KRW in sports promotion and the expansion of sports facilities.
The county is making this year the inaugural year of a new sports promotion initiative, accelerating the improvement of sports promotion systems and sports facility environments by selecting and implementing 20 tasks across 5 sectors.
The main initiatives include ▲ revitalizing sports events and competitions ▲ nurturing future outstanding sports talents ▲ scaling up the hosting of national competitions ▲ attracting customized training camps and sports events ▲ expanding and operating public sports facilities centered on user demand.
To revitalize sports events and competitions, 630 million KRW will be provided to support the hosting and participation in 76 competitions organized by 46 sports organizations, promoting community activities and harmony among residents through health improvement and activation of recreational sports.
They will also work on improving related systems in response to changes in the sports environment, strengthening the autonomy of elected sports organizations, and enhancing the protection of athletes' human rights to foster a better sports environment.
To nurture future outstanding sports talents, 520 million KRW will be provided to 67 students across 5 sports from 5 elementary, middle, and high schools in the area, as well as 2 excellent athletes.
Twelve recreational sports instructors will be assigned to improve athletic performance, and support for sports lesson vouchers will be provided to promote healthy leisure activities for vulnerable children and youth.
Six large-scale national competitions will be hosted to widely promote the excellent natural environment and sports industry infrastructure, revitalizing the local economy through the scale of the events and serving as a driving force for regional vitality.
As the birthplace of women's Ssireum (Korean wrestling), the Gurye National Women's Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Competition, held annually since 2009, and the operation of the Gurye County Office Women's Ssireum Team will further solidify the external status and competitiveness of women's Ssireum, expand its base, and maximize the synergy effect of sports marketing.
41 billion KRW will be invested to establish a foundation for attracting customized training camps and strengthen sports attraction activities.
They will strategically promote the attraction of training camps targeting a total of 30,000 participants annually to drive the local economy during the winter and summer seasons, and will also devote full efforts to attracting national competitions through sports networking.
To expand and operate public sports facilities centered on user demand, 4.3 billion KRW will be invested, strengthening communication between pre-competitions and sports organizations to expand the foundation for attracting competitions, enhance competitiveness, and increase capacity.
To provide a safe, clean sports environment and comfortable spaces, 1.9 billion KRW will be invested in six locations including the public stadium to improve the utilization of public sports facilities and enhance user satisfaction.
Considering accessibility and usage frequency, regular maintenance of over 200 neighborhood sports facilities will be conducted to provide safe opportunities for sports activities accessible to everyone.
