Our Ancestors' Land? ... Busan City Helped 12,114 People Find 44,236 Land Parcels Last Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The public response to the "Finding Ancestral Land" service implemented by Busan City is very enthusiastic.
Over the past year, Busan City has helped 12,114 people find ancestral land under their names, totaling 44,236 parcels with a total area of 50.5㎢ through the "Finding Ancestral Land" service.
The "Finding Ancestral Land" service is a free service that locates land registered under ancestors' names when heirs cannot identify or are unaware of the inherited land due to the sudden death of the landowner.
This service is implemented by Busan City and several local governments to assist citizens in exercising their property rights.
Busan City introduced a QR code on the land status report provided through the "Finding Ancestral Land" service, which automatically links to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Land Use Regulation Information Service for the first time nationwide, allowing citizens to easily check related land information.
The "Finding Ancestral Land" service can be used by visiting the nearest city, county, or district office.
Applicants must bring identification, a family relation certificate proving heirship such as a family register, a family relation certificate if the death occurred after 2008, and a basic certificate indicating the date of death.
In cases where a proxy applies due to unavoidable reasons, submitting a power of attorney along with copies of the IDs of both the principal and the proxy allows immediate receipt of the land status.
Im Kyung-mo, Director of the Urban Planning Bureau of Busan City, stated, "There are often cases where ancestors passed away without settling their property, leaving land unknown to descendants," and added, "We will strive to protect citizens' property rights and help them reclaim their rights."
