Ministry of Justice to Grant Second 3·1 Day Parole on 28th to 1,055 Model Prisoners... Choi Ji-seong and Jang Chung-gi Excluded
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] The Ministry of Justice will carry out additional parole for 1,055 exemplary prisoners in celebration of the March 1st Movement Day.
The Ministry of Justice announced on the 24th that it will conduct the second parole in commemoration of the March 1st Movement Day at 10 a.m. on the 28th for 1,055 exemplary prisoners.
It is reported that former Samsung Future Strategy Office Chief (Vice Chairman) Choi Ji-sung, former Future Strategy Office Deputy Head (President) Jang Chung-gi, and former Liberty Korea Party lawmaker Choi Kyung-hwan, who were subject to parole review, were excluded from this parole.
The Ministry of Justice stated, "This second parole in commemoration of the March 1st Movement Day, like the first parole, considered the purpose of the parole system and the overcrowded environment of correctional facilities vulnerable to infectious diseases due to the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, and included many exemplary prisoners with low risk of recidivism who are patients, have underlying diseases, or are elderly and vulnerable to COVID-19 immunity."
The Ministry of Justice plans to conduct regular parole in March twice, on March 17 and 30, to facilitate the early social reintegration of exemplary prisoners, alleviate overcrowding in correctional facilities, and prevent group infections.
Previously, on the 18th, the Ministry of Justice conducted the first parole in commemoration of the March 1st Movement Day for a total of 1,031 exemplary prisoners.
