Ensuring Basic Academic Skills Despite COVID-19! ... Ulsan Office of Education Supports Teacher Substitutes and Minimizes Class Disruptions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education is supporting the securing of substitute teachers to minimize class disruptions at schools due to the increase in confirmed teacher cases ahead of the new semester.
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has secured a pool of over 3,400 contract teachers to support smooth hiring of substitute teachers at schools.
In preparation for the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the pool of contract teachers, including temporary teachers and part-time lecturers, has also been organized. The hiring status of those registered in the pool is being updated and inspections are being strengthened.
The part-time lecturer pool system has added a feature to send recruitment text messages that schools can use immediately, and promotion efforts targeting school hiring managers are being intensified.
When a teacher becomes a quarantine subject or is confirmed positive, schools minimize class disruptions by securing substitute teachers through teacher coverage or temporary teachers.
To secure substitute teachers, retired teachers who have been retired for less than one year are also eligible for contracts. The hiring age limit for those holding teaching certificates has been temporarily extended from 62 to 65 years old.
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to hire about 280 temporary teachers outside the regular quota on a temporary basis this year.
An official from Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education said, “In response to teacher confirmations or quarantines, we will support class substitutions among teachers as well as temporary teachers and lecturers. We have secured the contract teacher pool to the fullest extent to reduce the burden on schools in securing substitute personnel.”
