Four-time Drunk Driving Offender Caught, Tells Brother "Say You Did It"… Sentenced to 4 Months in Prison

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A man in his 30s who asked his younger brother to give false testimony after being caught for drunk driving was sentenced to prison.
On the 23rd, the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 6 (Judge Nam Seung-min) announced that it sentenced Mr. A (30), who was tried for the charge of subornation of perjury, to four months in prison.
Mr. A was charged with asking his younger brother, Mr. B, to give false testimony by calling him and saying, "Testify that you were the one driving," after being caught for drunk driving on October 9, 2020.
Mr. B appeared as a witness at Mr. A's drunk driving trial held at the Incheon District Court on June 17 last year and testified that he was the one driving, at his brother's request.
In court, when the prosecutor asked Mr. B, "The reporter suspected drunk driving, so why did you drive abnormally?" he lied, saying, "I think I was driving while looking at my phone."
Mr. A, who had been punished four times in the past for drunk driving, is known to have asked Mr. B to give false testimony, thinking that he could not avoid a heavy sentence if caught again this time.
The court stated, "The defendant caused confusion in the judicial order by having his younger brother give false testimony," and "considered the very bad nature of the crime."

Meanwhile, Mr. A was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial last August for drunk driving, and after confessing in the appeal trial in December last year, his sentence was reduced to one year and six months. If the four-month prison sentence for subornation of perjury is finally confirmed, he will have to serve a total of one year and ten months in prison combined with the sentence received for the drunk driving case.
