[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Seol Hoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on the so-called 'Daejang-dong recording' in which 'that person' was identified as a sitting Supreme Court justice, saying, "I think Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate, must have felt very wronged for more than four months, and he endured it well." Seol, who served as the election countermeasures committee chairman for Lee Nak-yeon's camp during the Democratic Party presidential primary, had previously mentioned the possibility of Lee's detention.
In an interview with KBS Radio's 'Joo Jin-woo's Live' on the 22nd, Seol said, "There was speculation that 'that person' in the recording was candidate Lee. But now it has been revealed that it was unrelated to Lee and that the person was a Supreme Court justice," adding, "I realize now that there were many misjudgments."
When the host asked, "The People Power Party claims that 'that person' is candidate Lee," Seol replied, "I don't think that's the case. They probably didn't expect the situation to unfold like this when the recording was made. Because they didn't know, the recording captured their internal discussions about the situation," adding, "From that, it seems certain that candidate Lee did not receive any money."
He then gave a positive evaluation of candidate Lee. Seol said, "He seems to be getting better and better," and "Once he gets going, he runs fast; he's much improved compared to when he first started campaigning." He also said, "He is the right person for unification. When forming the campaign committee, he tries not to appoint his close aides as much as possible," adding, "From that, it seems he is not just paying lip service to unification but has a definite will to put it into practice," repeatedly praising candidate Lee.
When asked how candidate Lee compares to the late President Kim Dae-jung, who was known for his public speaking, Seol said, "I feel that candidate Lee is becoming similar to him," and "In some ways, he also reminds me of President Roh Moo-hyun. Although he had shortcomings initially, listening today, he is simply outstanding," he praised again.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court Justice Cho Jae-yeon, who was identified as 'that person' in the recording, completely denied the allegations against him. On the afternoon of the 23rd, he held a press conference at the Supreme Court's main conference room and stated, "I have never met Kim Man-bae publicly or privately, nor have I had any acquaintance or phone calls with him," emphasizing, "Not only with Kim Man-bae but also with anyone related to the Daejang-dong case, I have no acquaintance or phone calls."

Justice Cho said, "In the current presidential election climate, there are many disputes between the ruling and opposition parties regarding the Daejang-dong case. I will not comment on the statements made by presidential candidates who mentioned my name," but added, "I believe that acts that seriously damage another person's honor must be strictly judged by the law, which aligns with the principles of justice."
