Gimhae-si Establishes Carbon Neutral Administrative Rules ... Avoid Using Elevators
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, has established administrative guidelines to reduce carbon emissions.
On the 23rd, Gimhae City announced that it has enacted carbon-neutral administrative guidelines to reduce carbon emissions generated during administrative work.
The administrative guidelines include 10 specific carbon reduction measures. These include prohibiting the use of plastic covers when bundling documents, selecting eco-friendly products such as fans and handkerchiefs as souvenirs, avoiding elevators in buildings under five floors, and deleting 100 emails every month.
The city plans to conduct a pilot operation targeting all employees of the city hall and its affiliated organizations and will fully implement the administrative guidelines from the second half of the year. Compliance status will be checked quarterly in the second half.
Along with the administrative guidelines, starting from March, the city will not provide paper towels in restrooms within the government buildings and will encourage the use of handkerchiefs. The 25th of every month will be designated as Email Deletion Day.
Emails accumulated in mailboxes occupy storage space and consume more electricity. It is known that sending a single email emits 4g of carbon dioxide.
From July, mobile appointment certificates will be introduced instead of paper certificates. The city expects to reduce 975 tons of greenhouse gases annually through the implementation of these administrative guidelines.
