Chungnam to Plant 5.83 Million Trees in Spring Tree Planting Project
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province will plant 5.83 million trees over 2,445 hectares of forest this year, focusing on economic trees and melliferous trees.
The province announced on the 23rd that it will promote a spring tree-planting project with these details. The project is divided into economic forest creation, large tree planting, regional specialized afforestation, fire-resistant forest belt creation, and fine dust reduction afforestation, and will be fully implemented from mid-next month.
First, the province plans to create economic forests by harvesting Korean red pine and poor-quality forests in an eco-friendly way, then planting 4.39 million trees of 14 species including pine, larch, Mongolian oak, and Japanese cypress over 1,555 hectares.
Additionally, aiming to revitalize the beekeeping industry and promote forest resource utilization, the province will promote a 225-hectare “regional specialized afforestation” including a “melliferous tree specialized forest” that provides food for honeybees, enhancing forest diversity and presenting a specialized model that the public can experience.
Large tree planting is promoted to restore natural disaster damage such as pine wilt disease-affected areas and to improve the public functions of forests such as roadside living area landscape creation. Through this project, the province will plant 530,000 trees over 390 hectares.
The fire-resistant forest belt is created to prevent wildfires from becoming large-scale during fire outbreaks. To this end, the province plans to establish fire-resistant forest belts over 35 hectares, including coniferous monocultures and forests around residential areas and roadsides.
In addition, the province will plant a total of 20,000 trees over 50 hectares in areas generating fine dust such as urban and suburban forests, young forests, and industrial complexes to reduce fine dust.
A total budget of 23.8 billion KRW will be invested in the spring tree-planting project.
