National Library for Children and Young Adults, Recruiting Libraries for Reading Culture Program
The National Library for Children and Young Adults is recruiting institutions (schools) nationwide to jointly operate reading culture programs this year for public and school libraries. The target programs include four projects: "Reading Books with the Library," "Please Read Books," "Coding with Stories," and "1318 Bookworms' Library Takeover." Libraries or schools wishing to participate in these projects can apply through city/provincial governments and education offices within the application period.
The "Please Read Books!" project is a collection of various programs including experiential program operations and hashtag challenges. Among these, the experiential program is aimed at elementary school students, where picture book authors visit schools to meet children, read books, and conduct activities such as making and drawing. Selected elementary schools will receive support including picture book author invitation programs, activity materials, yellow aprons, reading guides, large reading aid materials, and other promotional items. This project is recruiting 50 elementary schools nationwide until March 17.
The "Coding with Stories" project is an integrated education program linking reading and coding for elementary school students. Children read picture books with librarians, then create characters and objects from the books and compose them using coding programs. Additionally, they creatively imagine the story’s ending and compose their own coding programs, making the content rich and engaging. This project is recruiting 100 public libraries nationwide until March 11.
"1318 Bookworms' Library Takeover" is a reading culture program targeting adolescents, connected with middle and high schools nationwide to encourage self-directed participation and foster a healthy reading culture among youth. This year, the new event "Gather! Bookworm Leaders" will be held to share past activities and experiences of bookworm leaders. This project is recruiting 100 middle and high schools nationwide until March 17.
Started in 2007, the "Reading Books with the Library" project targets children and youth from knowledge and information vulnerable groups, involving public libraries working together with local children's centers or youth support centers. As a visiting program to participating institutions, it provides children with opportunities to become familiar with libraries and helps form reading habits, while supporting out-of-school youth emotionally through reading and assisting their social adaptation and career direction setting. This project is recruiting 120 public libraries nationwide until the 25th of this month.
