30,000 Gwangju Social Welfare Workers Declare Support for Lee Jae-myung
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Three thousand social welfare workers in the Gwangju area have expressed their support for Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 21st at 3 p.m., they held a press conference at the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Office to declare their support for presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, stating, “We strongly support candidate Lee Jae-myung, who will lead a great transformation toward a new world with equality, a people-centered harmonious country, innovation, and an inclusive welfare state through the realization of new social welfare policies,” and delivered the list of supporters.
Attending the press conference were Jeonnam Provincial Council Chairman Kim Han-jong, Gwangju Social Welfare Center Association President Kim Geon-tae, Gwangju Disabled Residential Facility Association President Ahn Hyo-cheol, CEO of the Tium Welfare Foundation Corporation Ahn Byung-gyu, Gwangju Metropolitan City Social Workers Association President Jeon Seong-nam, Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Secretary-General Kim Yoo-seung, Gwangju City Council members Shin Su-jeong and Kim Kwang-ran, and Gwangsan District Council member Lee Gwi-soon.
They said, “Social welfare workers who aim to realize universal welfare have devoted themselves with a sense of mission, sparing no effort in the field,” and added, “Many presidential candidates have only sought votes with rosy promises, but we will no longer be deceived.”
They continued, “In this presidential election, we decided to support welfare president Lee Jae-myung, who understands the reality of the social welfare sector better than anyone else and can solve our demands and aspirations with definite policies,” and stated, “We know well that candidate Lee has consistently practiced pragmatic politics that saves everyone, and we have seen him think more intensely for the socially vulnerable and disadvantaged in this world.”
They also emphasized, “Candidate Lee’s realization of an inclusive welfare state, promise of a care welfare state, expansion of public and social housing, a major shift to people-centered policies, implementation of a unified wage system for social workers, improvement of treatment for non-regular workers in welfare facilities, unified wage system for care workers, equal payment of basic old-age pensions, and expansion of senior citizen jobs all contain our earnest wishes,” and stressed, “The fair and warm world we dream of together is achieved not by superstition or shamanism but solely by pure human will and effort.”
Furthermore, they said, “In an environment of unfairness where the gap between rich and poor and justice tilted to one side exist, it is necessary to emphasize that these are not individual responsibilities but national responsibilities and duties, and to guarantee the right for everyone to live an equal life,” and added, “To secure such social justice and public welfare, we hope that the improvement of treatment for social welfare workers who are devoted in the field more than anyone else will surely be realized through Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.”

Kim Yoo-seung, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party, responded, “Candidate Lee Jae-myung has always aimed for a welfare state and has proposed a basic series of pledges,” and said, “We will ensure that the matters delivered today are positively accepted after the presidential election.”
