[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Serious Accident Advisory Committee, which will advise the prosecution on the direction of investigations into serious accidents, held an appointment ceremony on the 21st and officially began its activities.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that it awarded appointment letters to nine committee members, including lawyer Kwon Chang-young (53, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 28) as the inaugural chairman, and held the first meeting.
At the meeting, presentations and discussions were held among the members on interpretations of key issues of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and efficient initial investigation methods for serious accident cases.
Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo stated, "The prosecution must respond strictly to serious accident cases that infringe on the lives and safety of the public," and urged, "The advisory committee should provide diverse theoretical and practical opinions to effectively respond to serious accident cases."
The Serious Accident Advisory Committee is an advisory body directly under the Prosecutor General, providing opinions on interpretations of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, identifying punishment and mitigation factors applicable to those responsible for accidents, and directions for legal improvements related to serious accident investigations.
